Friends, family and strangers answered a call for help over the weekend as a 2-year-old battles her second brain tumor.

A fundraiser held Saturday in honor of Larissa Dockum included a chili supper, an auction and a raffle with items donated from Des Moines businesses.

The event’s organizer, Jessica Evans, said they just wanted to help Larissa and her family: “Larissa is just the light of everyone’s life. She always has a smile on her face, she’s such a beacon of hope. I’ve never seen a little kid that’s as strong as she is.”

Evans said the money will go toward helping the family with living expenses while Larissa undergoes treatment at the Mayo Clinic.
